Suggested Packing for Iowa Girls State

 

  1. Umbrella
  2. Jacket
  3. Sunglasses
  4. Camera
  5. Water Bottle
  6. Cell phone (but NEVER use it during meetings)
  7. Comfortable shoes- (shoes with a back or straps must be worn by those participating in flag ceremony, i.e., no flip flops, slides, or similar style of shoes) Dress Flats recommended by previous citizens.
  8. Towels/wash cloth/pillow, sheets,
  9. Clothes hangers
  10. Over the door hooks for towels
  11. Toiletries (shampoo, toothpaste, )
  12. Make up mirror, there are no mirrors in dorm
  13. At least 6 days of Business professional attire for meetings and campaigning.
  14. Dress down for meetings /organized activities means no athletic shorts or jeans/jean shorts – bring khaki shorts, capris, or something
  15. Evenings after meetings and free time in the dorms you can wear casual clothes (athletic shorts, sweats, )
  16. Running clothes/shoes – supervised running is offered in the early morning when leaders are available.
  17. Prom dress for Inauguration
  18. Money for snacks, or items at the Girls State store (the Girls State store is open Sunday during registration for parent shopping, too)
  19. Notebook, notecards, and pens.

DO NOT bring pre-printed campaign material! Campaign supplies are provided.

 

 

Your Girl’s State Wardrobe: Dressing to Impress

You’ll want to look your best at Girl’s State.  Wear dresses or skirts most days, knowing that we will have many special guest speakers and even more opportunities to run for office! You might also rock a power suit and bring some khaki shorts for our tour of the State Capitol building. Here’s what your wardrobe might look like during your week at Girl’s State.
